How we measure AI visibility.

AI answers change from one ask to the next. These are the rules we follow so the numbers you see describe your visibility, not the luck of one answer.

What we ask, and where

Every prompt you track is asked on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Gemini once a week. Each answer is read for whether it names you, where you appear among the brands it names, how it describes you, which competitors it names and which pages it cites. Gemini's answers reach us without their sources, so source counts cover the other three engines.

Answers vary, so one answer is one draw

Ask the same AI the same question twice and the brands it names can differ. A single weekly answer is a sample, not a verdict. When a ChatGPT or Gemini answer disagrees with that prompt's last three (it names you after three misses, or leaves you out after three mentions), we ask twice more and the three answers vote. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode follow the search results page and vary less, so they are asked once.

Every rate comes with its range

A mention rate is shown with its 95% interval, so 40% of 10 answers reads differently from 40% of 400. Under 8 answers we say the rate is too thin to read rather than show a bare number.

A change has to be more than noise

We compare your last four weeks with the four before using a two-proportion test at 95%, and only call a rise or fall when it passes. Otherwise we say there is no clear change. Neither side is compared with fewer than 8 answers. For a single prompt, a drop counts only when the same engine shows it two checks in a row, or two engines show it in the same check.

Sources that moved

A cited site is listed as moving only when its share of answers over the last four weeks differs from the four before by the same test. A one week spike never shows.

What AI says about your brand

Brand Truth checks each answer against the facts in your Brand Knowledge. A wrong or missing fact seen once is a sighting; it is confirmed when two engines say it, or when it shows up in two checks. It counts as fixed after two checks in a row without it. Facts that were read from your site long ago and never confirmed are flagged, so an old fact of ours never makes a correct answer look wrong.
